The Waynflete Singers' CD Recordings

Many of our recordings have received critical acclaim.
The two recordings below are included in the Gramophone publication:
"The 75 Greatest Choral Recordings of all Time"

Delius CD with Bryn Terfel Portrait

Our Chandos recording of Delius' Sea Drift, coupled with his Songs of Farewell and Songs of Sunset, with
Richard Hickox, Bryn Terfel and Sally Burgess, won the coveted .....

Gramophone Choral Award - 1994

This has been re-released by Chandos with a cover portrait of Bryn Terfel - same no: CHAN 9214.
See below for more details and critical acclaim

Our recording of Walton's Belshazzar's Feast under Andrew Litton on Decca won the prestigious Grammy Award in 1997 - the choral
equivalent of an Oscar.
Both of these recordings were made with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.

Grammy Award - 1997

The citation reads:

"WALTON: BELSHAZZAR'S FEAST"

Decca's award winning CD of Belshazzar's Feast

Chandos have released a double-cd sampler of recordings by Richard Hickox in celebration of his award of the CBE in the Jubilee Birthday Honours list. An excerpt from our recording of Delius's Seadrift is included on the second cd which features Richard's choral recordings. The sampler HICK0023(2) is available from Chandos Direct or record shops at £4.99.

CD cover of Delius' A Mass Of Life

Our CD of Delius's Mass of Life and Requiem has been re-released by Chandos with a new cover picture
(replacing the universally 'panned' picture of a foetus!) but with the same no: CHAN 9515

A full and atmospheric Chandos recording confirms this as a first choice" - The Guardian
"..pride of place goes to the present offering not least for its spectacularly superior sound transparently capturing
the stillest moments in a spaciousness gorgeously, gloriously, tumultuously filled at the climaxes" - Fanfare

Finzi In Terra Pax

Our recording of Gerald Finzi's In Terra Pax is the first track on Finzi Centenary double-CD available at mid-price in Decca's
new British Music Collection series Decca 468 807-2 (This track was included in our Christmas Fantasy CD - see below.)

"Both works are superbly performed ... excellent chorus" - Sunday Telegraph
"This idealized light and air-filled sound brings a sharper, bright presence for the chorus (and its German words) ... The Hampshire chorus shine in the prominent role which the Chandos balance gives them, with ringing attack for all entries where it is needed, and singing as confident as it is sensitive ... really incisive, eager singing and playing" - Gramophone

"The choir is first class" - BBC Music Magazine
"Unequivocally ... the finest recorded post-Beecham Sea Drift ... choral singing from Hampshire's finest, rivalling Hickox's 1980 LSO Chorus, and surpassing Mackerras's Welsh forces ... a fuller, more present choral sound (and clear consonants) ... there's a lot more life in Hickox's last three songs, particularly the "Old Sailor" of the final song.
